Meet some of the Blue Horizons Team
Emma-Mary has been hooked on outdoor adventures and extreme sports since childhood. With 25 years of surf coaching under her belt, she’s also been a certified ski instructor, PE teacher, windsurf instructor, and ski rescuer in Scotland! (Basically, any job that lets her soak up the outdoors).
Her superpower? Noticing every flower and bird that flutters by, with a heart full of compassion and a love for life and people.
As a co-founder of Blue Horizons, Emma-Mary is living her dream of making surfing inclusive for all while spreading her passion for the great outdoors. She’s all about sharing the joy!

Meet Ollie, the co-founder of Blue Horizons, whose boundless energy and unwavering dedication ensure that our surf school is accessible to all.
Ollie is a qualified surf coach, adaptive surf coach and Beach lifeguard (and sometimes makes life a little brighter by also being an electrician)!
With a passion for surfing that rivals only his love for chocolate, Ollie’s knowledge of the Pembrokeshire coast, and his fun-loving, caring, and compassionate nature make him the ultimate surf coach for you.
Oh, and have we highlighted his mastery of “dad jokes” yet? Brace yourself for a tidal wave of fun with Ollie!

Becky’s love for all things ocean-related runs deep – not only is she a passionate surf coach, but she’s also a dedicated marine biologist.
When she’s not catching waves and spreading her surfing joy, you’ll often catch her exploring the wonders beneath the ocean’s surface or marveling at the vibrant life in Pembrokeshire’s rock pools. With her infectious enthusiasm, she’s an inspiring instructor both on and off the waves – and being around her is sure to get you excited too!
Oh, and did we mention she’s also a pro at crocheting? Sea creatures, of course!
(And let’s not forget – she’s behind 90% of the awesome photos we have! Credit where credit’s due!)

Becky
Ben’s journey with Blue Horizons began as a passionate volunteer for our inclusive surf projects, and now he’s on his way to becoming a fully trained ASI surf coach—how awesome is that?
Despite his busy schedule, Ben somehow manages to squeeze in some surfing time (you’ll often spot him emerging from the waves at daybreak).
But wait, there’s more! He’s also a co-founder of another cool venture, Pobl Tir Mor, a Pembrokeshire CIC dedicated to revitalising the area. Plus, he’s teaming up with Visit Pembs and similar groups for some epic community events. Ben’s the ultimate multitasker with a serious knack for making waves—in and out of the water!
With a lifetime of experience working with both kids and adults, Ben brings a sense of calmness and fun wherever he goes. Hang ten with Ben for a wave of laughter and adventure!

🌊 Exciting Times Ahead with Blue Horizons!
In 2024, we felt incredibly fortunate to collaborate with over 20 local businesses and organisations, coming together to create closer ties in our community and help make it more accessible to all.
Every contribution—no matter how big or small—has been vital. Whether it’s donating wetsuits, building equipment storage areas, volunteering for water safety, taking photos, securing project funding.... the list goes on!. We look forward to working with partners and community members both familiar and new as every effort plays a part in creating an inclusive, fun, and safe space for all to enjoy the beauty of the coast we proudly call home.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing stories of how these partnerships have made a real impact on people’s lives in 2024
🌊 EXCITING UPDATES FOR 2025:
*We`re looking to expand our team with new admin and Surf Instructor roles.
*We’ll be offering more volunteering and training opportunities, helping even more people get involved.
*New adaptive wetsuits and equipment to enhance accessibility.
*More community projects to bring inclusive and accessible coastal experiences to more people.
We want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who has give of their time in being part of this journey—your support makes all the difference! 🌞💙

💙 The Power of Blue Seas and Open Spaces 💙
What is it about the open water that brings us together? Yesterday’s boat trips gave us some beautiful answers:
🌊 Watching people connect, and seeing new friends share a warm embrace after sharing life stories.
🌍 Listening to an incredible gentleman with dementia recount his days as a geologist—discovering diamonds in South Africa and working in Dubai when it was still just a desert in the 1960s.
😊 Seeing the pure joy on someone’s face as they steer a boat for the first time, feeling freedom at their fingertips.
💛 Hearing from a parent that this was the first time in months their son had relaxed, soaking in the peace of his surroundings.
🏴☠️ Sharing laughter as someone pretended to be a pirate, humming the Pirates of the Caribbean theme, while others quietly watched the hypnotic swirl of water as we glided upriver.
The sea is so many things to so many people—a space for adventure, a haven for calm, or even a little of both. Yesterday, it was everything we could have hoped for.
🙏 A huge thank you to @_dalesailing , Milford Haven Port Authority, and our fantastic skipper (you know who you are!) for your incredible generosity. These unforgettable moments wouldn’t have been possible without your support.
🎥 We’re also thrilled to announce our collaboration with University of Wales Trinity Saint David! Media course students joined us to capture the magic of these moments, creating films as part of their projects. This partnership is all about providing real-world opportunities for the next generation of storytellers.
Providing boat experiences for over 30 people yesterday, we are excited to announce the next trips are on Sunday 15th December, please fill in the short form to attend: https://forms.gle/L1hRy5d6QMfyVbmLA
💙 Here’s to many more magical days on the water. 💙

🌊 Surfing Scheme `Brainwaves` Making Waves in Pembrokeshire! 🏄♂️
After last years pilot scheme, ‘Brainwaves’, is again giving individuals with neurological conditions and brain injuries in Pembrokeshire the chance to hit the waves! 🌊 Thanks to the incredible work of Hywel Dda University Health Board`s Community Neuro-rehabilitation Service (CNRS) and the support of the national lottery community fund, patients have been experiencing the joy of surfing at local beaches like Broadhaven North and Manorbier.
Under the guidance of adaptive surf instructors from Blue Horizons these sessions offer so much more than just fun on the water. From boosting physical health to lifting spirits, this surf therapy is proving to be a game-changer for participants. Paul Stott, a Therapy Assistant Practitioner at Hywel Dda UHB, is thrilled to bring the initiative to Pembrokeshire, building on the incredible foundation laid by @surfability_uk in Swansea.
One participant from the pilot scheme, shared his inspiring journey from being hesitant to surf due to balance issues, to catching waves and feeling a huge sense of achievement. His story is just one example of the positive impact this project is having on the group, offering social connection, empowerment, and new skills.
We’re so excited to see where this goes! We can’t wait to watch the `Brainwaves` project continue to grow. Huge thanks to the amazing surf instructors, volunteers, and CNRS therapists who are making it all possible! 🌟

This brilliant initiative has provided a well-deserved break and a splash of fun for these amazing young individuals who dedicate so much of their time and energy to caring for others. The surf lessons not only offered them a chance to learn new skills but also to enjoy the beautiful beaches of Pembrokeshire, connect with peers, and experience the fun that can come with catching some waves. 🌊💙
Let’s continue to support our young carers, ensuring they get the recognition, care, and opportunities they so rightly deserve. Here`s to more waves and more smiles in the future! 🌟💪

Very Exciting News Alert!!! 🚨💥🎉
Our Queen bee Emma-Mary is a finalist for the Welsh Woman in Business Award (Social Enterprise Category).
So it`s time to celebrate the amazing person she is and her role as Director at Blue Horizons.
Three years ago, Emma-Mary had a vision to promote health and well-being within our Pembrokeshire community and to enable visitors to enjoy inclusive activities. This vision has blossomed and created a dedicated team of volunteers, instructors and staff all sharing the same passion, guided by this wonderful woman.
Emma-Marys love for the outdoors is contagious and inspiring. While she`d rather be outside on a sunny day, she has spent three years promoting accessible surf projects and community clubs. Her efforts ensure everyone can enjoy surfing in a safe, fun and nurturing environment.
From all of us at Blue Horizons, we would like to thank her for the guidance, support and joy she brings to our team. Award or not, she`ll always be our Queen bee and we`re incredibly fortunate to have her in our lives.
